LepreCon is a general science fiction/fantasy convention that was first held in 1975. Our 2020 event will be our 46th year.

Our dates are April 10-12, 2020. This is Easter weekend.

LepreCon 46 Canceled

Many events have canceled recently due to concerns about COVID-19. Unfortunately, LepreCon has also been put in a position where it must cancel as well. The hotel saw the writing on the wall, and agreed to invoke the "force majeure" clause of the contract which basically covers natural disasters and acts of god. We will be OK financially. There needs to be a falloff in corona cases and a halt to the disruptions before we can do any planning about LepreCon's future. There is a possibility the current convention may be rescheduled later in the year. If this turns out not to be feasible, there is always next year.

All payments made to LepreCon 46 will be refunded. I have consulted with the treasurer, who has indicated that he should be able to complete that process by the end of April (sooner if possible). If the payment was made by PayPal, he will attempt to reverse the payment. Otherwise you will be mailed a check.

If you have made hotel reservations, be sure to cancel them to avoid any charges. They will not be automatically canceled for you.

Statement from the Chair

We have noted that many events have canceled recently due to concerns about COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus). Several events in California have canceled. The Tucson Book Festival has canceled. The AZ Game Fair has postponed. More notably the City of Chandler, where our hotel is located, has canceled all events that are city-sponsored or which take place on City of Chandler property until April 30. This includes the Ostrich Festival, which is a major event, Friday Night Live, Downtown Chandler Farmers Market and Yoga in the Park.

The Arizona Legislature has closed both the House and Senate galleries to the public and has canceled "field trips, and all visits from outside organizations, foreign dignitaries, etc."

LepreCon has had some participant cancellations, most notably our Author Guest of Honor, Robert McCammon, who lives in Alabama. He stated: "I've gone back and forth on this, and back and forth again, and unfortunately I feel the need to cancel my appearance at LepreCon. I hate to do this because I'd been looking forward to the con and also because never before in my life have I said I would be somewhere and not shown up... but in all honesty I just don't feel confident in traveling right now and am uncertain of what another month may bring."

We are restricted in our decision to postpone or cancel Leprecon 46 by our contract with the hotel. We must work in conjunction with them to come up with a solution, since Governor Ducey & ADHS haven't yet prohibited all public gatherings. We will speak with them Monday to begin the process of determining whether the convention can be postponed or canceled. A decision will be announced by the end of the week.
